The Firearms Licensing Department is responsible for issuing Certificates for Firearms, Shotguns and Explosives TO RESIDENTS WITHIN THE SURREY POLICE AREA ONLY. To apply for a firearms licence, you can download the appropriate firearms forms from this site.

It is important that you read the information on the firearms licence forms page and the notes contained on the application forms themselves carefully before filling out the appropriate form - it includes important details such as information about any photographs, convictions, references/countersignatures and fees that you may need to enclose with your form and send it to the correct address.

For general enquiries about the firearms licensing process (including renewals or cancellations of existing firearms licences), or if you wish to have a form sent to you by post, contact the unit.

The completed application form with four photographs and the appropriate fee (cheques made payable to Surrey Police) should be returned to:

N.B. Please ensure each referee recieves a form 125 to complete otherwise your application will be delayed. Please remind referees that questions 15-18 are completed in full - one word answers will not be accepted. Referees should return their forms to the same address above.

Your application will take approximately four weeks to process. It will be dealt with by a Civilian Firearms Enquiry Officer, who will contact you in due course to arrange an interview and advise you on security requirements. Please do not take any action on security until advised.

Filming with Weapons in Public
Surrey Police has produced guidance for all Media and/or Film departments in schools, further and higher education establishments in the county to provide instruction on the reporting of planned filming with weapons; and general information and advice.

When considering filming in a public place using imitation firearms organisers MUST consider the relevant legislation. Carrying an imitation weapon in a public place is an offence which can lead to six months imprisonment and/or a fine. If the sequence does require the use of imitation firearms then organisers should always search for private locations to conduct this type of filming.

If a public location must be used, a risk assessment should be undertaken before filming commences. This risk assessment should include consideration to the risk or potential risk of harassment, alarm or distress to the public in sequences involving the use of weapons.

For further information, please see the guidance document (159kb PDF).
