There are so many civilize way to protect your gun and this is the worst.
Used engine oil contain so much wasted chemicals and had a lot of metal from engi ...
I have use old engine oil or gearbox oil on my blue steel surface! Yes people looks into the substance and claim this and that¡K¡K., but in reality there are nothing better than doing an actual task! They looks great! And I never have skin problem! (Just one thing people don't soak a gun into the bucket of old oil! We just use a little.)
Yes! Good for you and maybe others to use those so-called "plain mineral oils, such as Rem Oil" with gun related brands ! But for me I rather use old engine or gearbox oil instead¡K¡K.

1 part Dexron ATF, GM Spec. D-20265 or later.

1 part Kerosene - deodorized, K1
*
1 part Aliphatic Mineral Spirits
*
CAS #64741-49-9, or substitute "Stoddard Solvent", CAS #8052-41-3, or equivalent.
*
1 part Acetone, CAS #67-64-1.
*
(Optional 1 lb. of Lanolin, Anhydrous, USP per gallon, or OK to substitute Lanolin, Modified, Topical Lubricant, from the drug store)
