if you press the button swiftly to the bottom, the mag will not drop free because the ambi catch of the other side will interfere with the mag itself.
when you press the release button to the middle of the whole travel, it will drop free by itself.

Let's put it this way, if you press and release the mag release, within this action of mag change, the mag will drop free by inertia. So it is not a problem.
