they look alike, but, they have different scopes, different operational mechanisms(like he said, FPK is similar to the AK, the SVD is a short stroke piston), they have different stocks, handguards and use differnt magazines. Also the muzzle brake is different from the flash hider on the SVD.
The SVD also has a milled receiver and the FPK has a stamped receiver. The SVD has a detatchable cheek piece(which according to russian soldiers, they steal from each other all the time), and the FPK has a non-detatchable cheep piece on the stock(which i think is too low)
the SVD's scope is battery powered while the FPK's scope is tritium glowing. they both employ the same sight reticle and shoot the same cartraidge.
the SVD is much more expensive to make than the FPK. The FPK is also known as the ROMAK3, the PSL or often incorrectly, the Romaninan Dragunov.
