Look closer at the original video of this post & you'll see that the shooter actually grabbed the spare mags from almost the exact same position...only time different was when he grabbed one from his strong side (right), but all other spares came from the SAME position off his vest on the weak side. It is definitely a spring-loaded mechanism that pushes the spares to the front.
