I was browsing GFAQs, and came across this,
"Alright so you need 2 veteran games to get the gun, so you add BF:BC, and then download the PC demo for BF2

and play one ranked match and then go claim that Veteran status for one of the harder to get (for free) extra weapons" - vaf151 (GameFAQs User) < Credit goes to him for this find.
I had a friend say this worked for him, so this might help some people missing the FN2000
