I didn't read his post! If I am in such deep shit I would hide and wait!
But long time ago we've been told if come contact with gun fire ambush, everyone should secure themself first! Wait & see, stay "away" from the firing line if possible! Return firing with an 5.56(weak against long distance) and walk in line with the fire is only get himself shot for sure! Therefore, stop! Hide! and wait is better than getting shot!
And there is no good being shout when shot! This draw the opposite side keep firing on your position.
