叫雞的粵語原形是召妓的國語發音,
因為初時香港人聽不太懂國語,
召妓聽作叫雞,"妓" 聽作 "雞",所以才出現叫雞一詞。
For calling prostitute as chicken (雞 "Gai" in Cantonese), the story is related to Mandarin in fact.
In the past, people asking for prostitution service in Mandarin was 召妓 ("Ziu Gei"
, since Hong Kongers did not know Mandarin well at that time.
They always referred Mandarin 召妓 ("Ziu Gei"
to as Cantonese 叫雞 ("Gil Gai", means calling a chicken) and prostitute 妓 ("Gei" in Mandarin) to as 雞 ("Gai" in Cantonese).
