Chines Mosin-Nagant

Chines Mosin-Nagant

CHINESE MOSIN-NAGANT M53,

Ching how did you remove cosmoline from the stock?
Stripped down the rifle. I tried to put all metal parts in the oven to remove cosmoline, but the heat only softened it a little. At the same time I boiled water and pour it into a big bucket. Put everything inside including the wooden stock and all metal parts. Soaked them a while. Put a lot of dishwashing detergent. Used a tooth brush to scrub all parts. Put more detergent and scrubbed over and over again.

The wooden stock is difficult. No matter how hard I tried, there's still some cosmoline on it. I just leave it. Used kitchen towel to rub all remaining cosmoline over and over. Dried the stock then put them back together.

It was tiring!!

Everyone does the same when cleaning off cosmoline. Search YouTube and you'll see.

NO! never soak oldass wood in water, the proper way is to use heat to oooze out the cosmoline in the stock, soaking stock in wood will destroy the wood   I put my stock in the oven and baked with low heat, now 90% of cosmoline are gone

Absolutely no problem. When soldiers carrry their rifles in the battle field, they have to cross rivers and lakes and all kind of terrain. They can sustain rain, snow, and heat. Soaked and dried repeatedly.

Rifle stock is not made from cheap low grade wood, not even the Chinese Mosin-Nagant. Today's new rifle/shotgun stocks made of wood, the factory would soak the wood in water to see the wood pattern. Of course those are made of excellent quality wood. Just want to say, rifle stock can be soaked in water without any problem.
